Many Christians get excited and inspired when thinking about the Cross. The Cross is where Jesus died for the remission and forgiveness of our sins. However, people rarely get equally excited when thinking about the cross that we've been called to bear.
Jesus says in the 16th chapter of the Gospel of St. Matthew that if we're going to be His disciples, we must deny ourselves, carry our cross, and follow Him. The Cross represents our upreach to God and our outreach to man. In order to follow Jesus, you have to love God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength; and your neighbor as yourself. This requires sacrifice and a spirit of selflessness that unfortunately is not the norm in the contemporary Christian church.
Let us not just be faithful to our devotion, let us not just be faithful to our ministries and to our congregations, let us also demonstrate faithfulness to the cross.
