The Deconstruction of Self

Many Christians believe that the biggest challenge to spiritual growth and our walk with Christ is sin. However, this many not necessarily be the case. The biggest obstacle to the believer's growth in Christ may not be sin, it may be self.

Jesus didn't say in the 16th chapter of the Gospel of St. Matthew to "deny sin." He said, "deny yourself." Jesus died for our sins, but the self is still very active in the soul of all believers. If we want to be true disciples of Christ we're going to have to deconstruct areas of the self, such as:

• self-centeredness
• self-promotion
• self-indulgence
• self-pity
• self-reliance
• self-confidence

The list goes on.

When you allow your focus to be on your self as opposed to Christ, you're retarding your spiritual growth and progress. It's time we take the initiative to deconstruct the self.
