Many of you may be familiar with the phrase, "desperate times call for desperate measures". I want to announce today that we are entering some Desperate Times. Don't be deceived with the distractions of the political hoopla leading up to the November Presidential election. Whoever the next President of the United States is won't change the course and destiny of this nation. The last President who ran a campaign on "change" didn't necessarily bring about the substantive level of change for which he promoted before he got elected. So we can't afford, eight years later, to put our hope in that again. We must squarely put our hope in God. But in order to get the type of results we're looking for from God, we're going to have to learn how to exercise "Desperate Faith" because we're entering into some Desperate Times.
If you're truly seeking the Lord and are focused on His Divine Will for your life, I suspect that God is challenging you to do some things that you've never done before. Whatever those things are, they are particular and distinct to your personal relationship with God. But I wouldn't be surprised if, while God is leading you to do some different things, that you're thinking to yourself "does it really take all of this?" The answer to that question is Yes. For this season, it takes all of that and more. What we must understand is that some of the things that The Father is leading us to do now are not for "now". They're for the Season for which we are about to enter. If the Judgment of God is released on this nation over the next several months, as I'm inclined to believe that it very well may be, we're going to be living in some very, very Desperate Times. So it is imperative at this juncture that the people of God get positioned to operate in a faith that is commensurate with the hard times for which we are about to endure. When this season hits, this lukewarm, mediocre faith that so many church-going Christians (and preachers) are exhibiting simply will not be sufficient. Desperate Times require Desperate Faith.
Desperate Faith is a faith that understands that the only way you can survive is at the Hand of God. Many people, including Christians, pride themselves on being self-sufficient. They raised themselves by their own "bootstraps". In the days to come, people won't even have boots, let alone straps to pull themselves up. You will need the Sufficiency of the Grace of God simply to survive. And if your faith is not acclimated to total dependence on God, you simply won't know what to do.
This is where the witness of the church comes in. God is preparing us even the now, so that when people are running scared, not knowing which way to turn, where to go or what to do, there will be a people of God who are walking in faith not by sight, and will be able to point to God as the Answer for the problems that face our nation. This is why God is stretching us right now. So don't be dismayed and don't be discouraged. Keep your focus on God and allow the Spirit to continue to stretch you and mold you, to make you and break you. In the days to come, you'll be glad that you did. Because when the desperate times hit, you will serve as a light and a witness to the effectiveness and sufficiency of a Desperate Faith in God.
